Fishing in Alaska is a fun sculpture that is constructed with rock that was collected from all over the west. The tall piece of slate with the honeycomb calcite was collected near the trilobite beds west of Delta, Utah . There is also a very good chance that there are trilobites in this piece of slate. It is supposed to represent Mt. McKinley (Denali) in Alaska with snow melting and water running off of the glacier. The ice sickles are 2 unique crystals I found near the mouth of Provo canyon in Utah . They were found in a Manning Canyon shale formation. Much of the flat brown area is petrified wood that came from Saddle Mountain in Washington state. The water is malachite and contains copper. This stone came from near Copper Mine Arizona. The logs and the trees are petrified wood that was found near Virgin, Utah . One of the stones in the base came from a gold mining area near Notch Mountain in Utah . It represents some of the mining that was done in Alaska. The water splashing up from the jumping fish is Topaz from Topaz Mountain, Utah . The sculpture has a bald eagle that is diving to get the fish that has been hooked. The fish is jumping out of the stream that is melting from the glacier off of the mountain. The Piper Super Cub with floats has dropped off our fisherman and is waving his wings as he goes to pick up another client. This has a lot of time invested and has been a fun sculpture to put together, I hope you enjoy it.
